Parippu / Moong dal curry

Ingredients

  1. Moong dal / Parippu - 1 cup
  2. Garlic - 4 cloves
  3. Grated coconut - 1 cup
  4. Jeera / Cumin - 0.5 tbsp
  5. Turmeric powder - 0.25 tbsp
  6. Pepper corn - 0.5 tbsp
  7. Curry leaves - 1 twig
  8. Coconut oil  / Ghee - 1 tbsp
  9. Water - 2.5 cups 
Procedure
  1. Fry the moong dal for 3-4 minutes. A nice aroma can be felt
  2. Cook the moong dal in a cooker by adding water. Make sure that the water covers the dal
  3. Wait for 4 whistles
  4. In the meanwhile, grind turmeric powder, coconut, jeera and garlic very smoothly by adding sufficient water,
  5. When the steam is released naturally from cooker, add the ground mixture to the cooked dal
  6. Add pepper corn and salt to the mixture and mix for few minutes 
  7. Cook this mixture for another 5 minutes. Keep mixing in between to prevent burning of the mixture.
  8. Add curry leaves and ghee to the mixture finally and switch off the stove. You may replace ghee with coconut oil.
  9. Yummy parippu curry is ready to be served with rice and pappadam.
