Ingredients
- Roasted sooji / semolina rava- 1 cup
- Onion - 1 medium
- Grated coconut - 0.25 cup
- Green chilly - 1
- Cashew nuts - 5
- Mustard - 1 tsp
- Urd dal - 1 tsp
- Red chilli -1
- Ginger - 1 inch piece
- Water - 1.5 cup
- Oil - 2 tbsp
- Salt
Procedure
- Cut onion, green chilli and ginger into fine pieces
- Cut red chill into 2-3 pieces
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Splutter mustard
- Add red chilli, urd dal, curry leaves and cashew nuts and fry till cashew has browned
- Add ginger, onion and green chillies and saute for few seconds till the raw smell goes away and onion becomes transparent.
- Add water and salt to this and let the water boil.
- Add the roasted sooji rava little by little into the boiling water and keep mixing the same to prevent lumps from forming.
- After the rava has been cooked ( 3-4 minutes), add the grated coconut and mix again
- Upma is ready to be served with banana and sugar
