Ingredients
- Black kadala / Chana - 1 cup
- Onion - 1 medium
- Red chilli - powder - 1 tbsp
- Coriander powder - 1.5 tbsp
- Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
- Garam masala - 1/2 tbsp
- Ginger - 1 inch
- Garlic - 2 cloves
- Water
- Oil
- Mustard - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves
- Shallot - 5
- Green chilli - 1
- Red chilli - 1
- Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Procedure
- Cook kadala and salt in a pressure cooker. Wait till 10 whistles.
- Cut onion finely lengthwise.
- Make ginger garlic paste.
- Grind coconut into a smooth paste by adding water.
- In a pan, heat oil
- Splutter mustard, red chilli
- Add nicely cut shallots, slit green chilli, red chilli and curry leaves
- Saute for 2 minutes
- Add Onion into this and stir till becomes transparent and about to brown.
- Add red chilli, turmeric and coriander powder and stir for 2 minutes
- Add the cooked kadala along with the water to this.
- Add the ground coconut paste to this
- Add salt if required
- Allow the curry to boil till it reaches the required consistency.
- Yummy kadala curry is ready to be served with puttu or chappathi.
